Griffins top field hockey

The Oberlin College field hockey team lost their first game of the year to the Seton Hill Griffins last Wednesday.

The Yeowomen avoided the shutout when first-year Christine Politis assisted junior Christine Castilla with 22:20 to go in the second half. The final score was 3-1.

Despite the loss the Yeowomen were constantly pressuring the Griffins, out-shooting them 16-8.

Seton Hill managed three goals on their limited quantity of shots. Sophomore Brittany Patton gave the Griffins the ultimate game-winning goal halfway through the first half.

The Griffins then added two goals from sophomores Nortia Bailey and Becky Shields in the second half.

First-year Lauren Malinowski started in goal for the Yeowomen and had three saves in her collegiate debut.

The field hockey team resumes action on Saturday at 11 a.m. versus SUNY-Geneseo on the West Fields.
