In the Locker Room With...Vlado Pupinoski

Vlado Pupinoski is choice to the uber degree. Hailing from the bosom of Europe, he comes to us in full effect in his new home, the grand old U. S. of A. When not serenading us with his magnificently melodic clarinet, he can be seen connecting one-twos with fellow strikers out on the soccer field. I caught up with the maestro of many talents over lunch at the local BRC.

So what is choice, my doggy?

The choice is my bacon omelet and a short stack of pancakes. How do you say, “What is choice, my doggy?” in your home language?Ahh...let me think...you have to think about the right translation. Stose desava be fraer. What is choice, my doggy. Thanks for the language lesson.

And for those poor souls who don’t know you, where is your home?

My home is Ohrid, in the Republic of Macedonia in southeastern Europe. North of Greece, south of Serbia.

Do you miss it?

Yes, I miss it very much.

What do they call you back in Macedonia?

Ahh...they call me Pupin cause that’s my original last name.In the U.S. you have so many names.

What are some of the most popular?

There is Vlado, Walter, Volvo, Valdo. I have DFL (Dogs For Life). They delete the “N” and call me Pupi. I don’t like that one, but I guess I have to live with it.

So what do you think about the state of football in the world?

I think the game has developed a lot and it is a much faster game now than in the 60s or 70s. There are a lot of underdogs or small countries that you would not expect that have improved so much, like Greece. South American soccer is the most technical and the most fun to watch. Their game is much faster with more rhythm.

Who is your favorite player in the world right now?

Oooh. That’s a tough question.

How about a top three?

Henry is probably the best striker right now. I really, really like Zidane and...man, this is such a tough question...umm...I would go with Ronaldo.

All right, according to you, what does “bauch” mean?

Bauch...bauch has to be the good times.

Did you keep it bauch in your Depends?

I have been keeping it very bauch since I have been born. My life is sustained by bauchery, hard work and bauchery. The good times.

Are you going to make a permanent undergarments change since this past weekend?

Yes, yes, yes. I have since been constantly using my adult diaper.

What was the craziest adult diaper moment for you?

I was sitting watching soccer with Sebas, my friend, and we looked at each other and we thought about the same thing, that if our parents were here what would they say, and we started laughing for like 20 minutes. Sebas said if my mom saw me...but also the spam and cheese was a highlight.

You won the Hustle Suit for your play over the weekend. Did you hustle, did you score or both?

I did my best. I did not score.

How about after the game?

I kept it bauch.

Okay, so besides the Oberlin Yeomen, if you could play for any team in the world, who would you play for?

Any professional team?

Any team. It could be the Elyria Pee Wee team.

Probably I would say AC Milan.

Out of all the positions on the field, who keeps it the most bauch?

Yes...I would say it is the defenders. No, actually it is the goalie who loves to keep it bauch because it is his decision to keep his hands on the balls.

Are you going to win the Hustle Suit again any time soon?

If I get the chance...I will definitely win it.

Who do we play this weekend and at what time?

We play Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m.

Where?

The soccer field.

Do you have any worldly advice for our fans?

Keep it bauch and keep it choice and dogs for life.

Finally, how many Macedonians does it take to change a light bulb?

A what? A light bulb? Oh...a light bulb. Probably about seven or eight.
