Divest from Israel

To the Editors:

As a member of the alumni community, I wish to express personal support for the Oberlin College campaign to divest from College holdings in companies that manufacture or sell arms to the state of Israel.

It was the unwavering commitment to political transformation and social justice that I learned from participating in the Oberlin community that led me to add my voice to those demanding an end to Israeli political aggression against the Palestinians.

I am now proud to work with the New York City-based Jews Against the Occupation. Until a commitment to restorative justice supersedes a fear of “demographic threats””and a willingness to apply a practice of equal protection regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation overrides the concerns of Jewish nationalism, we must demand change from the Israeli government and from its chief supporters in the U.S.

We must do our part to end Palestinian suffering and to promote peace through justice in the Middle East and in the world. I sincerely hope that Oberlin will lead the way as it has for so many other struggles.
