Senior Marta Berg is the recipient of the first David Love Memorial Fund Fellowship. The award helped enable Marta to accept an internship in Vienna last January after her semester away in Paris, where she studied studio art and art history.

In Vienna, Marta worked at the Central Europe Center for Research and Documentation (Centropa) under the supervision of the Center’s director, the American film director and photographer Edward Serotta, to create a short documentary photo-essay exploring the lives of Jewish refugees in Shanghai in the past 200 years, but especially during World War II.

Marta’s piece will become a permanent contribution to ‘Witness to a Jewish Century,’ Centropa’s searchable online library of oral histories and family pictures, contributed by elderly Jews still living in Central and Eastern Europe. Marta presented her work to the Oberlin community this Wednesday.

The David Love Memorial Fund honors the contributions of David Love to Oberlin College, who served as its Director of Sponsored Programs from 1984 to 2001 and concurrently as Associate Vice President for Research and Development from 1994 to 2001.
