Track disappoints at All-Ohio

The Oberlin men’s and women’s track teams finished with disappointing scores at the Division III All-Ohio State Championships, hosted by Otterbein College and Ohio Wesleyan University this past weekend. The women’s team tied for ninth overall with 42 points while the men’s team failed to score in any event.

Senior Shannon Houlihan and junior Teresa Collins continue to lead the women’s team. Houlihan reached a distance of 10.96 meters for third place in the triple jump, followed by Collins in fourth with a jump of 10.90 meters. In the 100m hurdles, fifth place was also taken by Houlihan in 16.16, as junior Leslie Bosworth ran 16.33 for sixth.

Along with placing in the triple jump, Collins took third place in the 200m dash and fourth place in the 400m dash with times of 26.78 and 58.58, respectively.

The 4x100 and 4x400m relay teams came in seventh in each event, running first 50.77, then 4:09.00.

Bosworth also competed in the 400m hurdles, ending with a time of 1:06.71 for fourth place.

Seventh place in the 100m dash went to first-year Danielle Brooks with 13.73. Sophomore Carmen Welton ran the 800m run in 2:23.72 for eighth place.

First-year John Hepp threw for a distance of 38.96 in the shot put, giving him 21st place.

“Considering we were at a meet with the top Division III teams in the state, I think our performance as a team was very respectable,” Hepp said.

First-year Travis Grout came in 10th with a time of 16:19.32 in the 5000m run, while his fellow classmate, Micah Peterson, concluded the 400m dash in 52.00 for the 13th spot.

Indoor pole vaulting champion sophomore Shean Perry, managed a height of 3.81 meters for a standing in the 18th slot of the event.

“While the men didn’t score any points for the team, there were still good individual performances,” Hepp said. “I think the indoor season really gives you a head start heading into outdoor. Especially as a freshman, since in high school there isn’t really an indoor season, it just gives you more opportunities to hone your skills.”

The teams will travel to Wooster College this Friday to compete in a conference meet at 4 p.m.
