Student arrested

Oberlin College junior Ryan Squatrito turned himself in to the police Saturday at approximately 11 p.m. after an incident early that morning. At approximately 12:39 a.m. Squatrito was spotted by Patrolman Roger Southworth with an open alcohol container at the People’s Community Church at 44 East Lorain Street. Squatrito was approached by Southworth but ran away. Squatrito allegedly assaulted Southworth in the process of running away. A police report has not yet been issued. After turning himself in, Squatrito was held in Lorain County Correctional Facility until Tuesday, March 9. Squatrito’s original courtdate was March 9, but has been pushed back to March 31.

Squatrito was charged with simple assault, having an open container in public, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. No bond was issued due to the assault on a peace officer charge.

Squatrito and Southworth were both unavailable for comment.
