Ed was not a model employee

To the Editors:

I am tired of all the fuss about the firing of Ed Beard, and I am tired of hearing only from Rance Turpin. Ed is a nice man, but he has a problem with authority. I know; I worked with him for two and a half years. He has threatened managers and lost his temper often at work at Stevenson dining hall. He, sadly, deserved to be fired.

It is a running joke that when a manager comes asking for volunteers to cover at Dascomb or DeCafé that Rance has called off yet again. It is usually true. He will call in after his shift has started; he rarely gives more than a two-hour notice. I find it poor reporting to interview one man with the same problem with authority as Ed to give his opinion about Ed’s situation.

Bon Appetit has been cited once with the National Labor Relations Board. This occurred in St. Louis in 1998. Our current managers have their weak points, but they certainly are not the evil oppressors Rance makes them out to be. They do their job, most of the employees do theirs and some complain about everything. You, the Review, need to interview more employees instead of basing your stories on the opinions of two.
