Women’s tennis wins big
Tennis upends Malone by dropping only one set

The Oberlin College women’s tennis team hosted Malone College on Saturday and cruised to a 9-0 victory. Oberlin dropped only one set in defeating the Pioneers.

“It felt good to win. It was a good confidence builder,” first-year Bianca Barr said about the match.

Oberlin was aggressive and ready to compete throughout the match, executing precisely in doubles competition. The tandem of junior Ary Amerikaner and freshman Bianca Barr earned an 8-2 victory at the number one slot. Shortly afterward, junior Jessica Hauser and sophomore Kate Lurain posted an 8-5 victory at two doubles. Senior Whitney Reichheld and sophomore Lesley Farber rounded out the sweep in doubles with a close 8-6 decision at three doubles.

“We started off shaky but got better as the match went on,” Barr remarked.

“Kate and I start slow with doubles. We get our stuff together by the third game,” Hauser added. “It feels good to win at doubles. Its nice to have the doubles wins.”

In singles action, Reichheld and Hauser led the Yeowomen for the second straight weekend. Reichheld earned an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory at third singles. Hauser cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the fourth singles position. Barr continued her impressive season by defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. Number one singles player Amerikaner overcame some late nerves and posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at first singles.

Hauser said it was about poise.

“I feel pretty confident in singles this year,” she said.

Oberlin will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to take on Otterbein University. In what was a hotly contested 6-3 victory last year, Hauser expects nothing less this season.

“We are going to kick their butts,” she said.
