Review careless with penis story

To the Editors:

Truly the Review had outdone itself in reporting that the hockey penis has been banned. The Review gave the article a prime position on the front page but failed to ask any difficult questions such as who finds the penis offensive and what right the athletic director has to ban students from bringing the penis to home games.

As co-creator of both the original penis in 2000 and its resurrection last year, I find it troubling that the Review made no attempt to solicit me, or any other individuals involved with the penis and ask for our take on the matter.

If the Review had done so, it would have found out that the penis has no connection whatsoever to the team but that it was created by fans not as a mascot, but in reference to the lewd behavior of OC hockey fans such as myself when the Plague still played on campus.

We were and still are just a bunch of cocks. Since it seems that the penis and those who house, love and stroke the mighty phallus with all their love and baby oil have no connection whatsoever to the Plague, the Review may have seen fit to ask why the athletic director thinks he can ban the penis.

Simply speaking, that prick can’t ban my cock. If the athletic director was in tune with the sentiments of most Oberlin students, he would realize that the hockey team is by far the most popular sports team on campus in terms of fan turnout.

Since the athletic director is so concerned with revitalizing Oberlin sports, surely he would approve of scores of Oberlin students trekking to Elyria to watch their beloved Plague being cheered on by a four- and-half-foot tall papier mchÄ penis.

If not, I will gladly strap a rubber on the cock if the athletic director gives the Plague the funding and support it deserves as the most popular athletic team on campus.
