Shansi introduces new student prize

To the Editors:

Oberlin Shansi encourages Oberlin graduates and undergraduates to pursue various projects in Asian countries by way of fellowships and In-Asia Study Grants. This year, Shansi introduces a student award, the Shansi Prize.

This Prize is awarded for meritorious scholarship on topics relating to Asia. To have a project entered for consideration it must be nominated by a member of the Oberlin faculty or staff.

The project can take the form of a written work, class project, research project, music composition or performance, and students from all disciplines are eligible for the award.

The Oberlin Committee of the Shansi Board of Trustees will consider the projects and at its discretion, may award one prize, more than one or none.

Prizes may vary, but will carry a maximum award of $500. It is a prize for completed work, and not a form of financial aid.

The Shansi Prize will be awarded annually coinciding with the end of the academic year. We encourage faculty and staff to nominate students whose work they believe to be appropriate for this prize.

The nomination form with detailed information on the award is available at the Shansi Office, Peters 103, or at www.oberlin.edu/shansi.
