Review Security Notebook

Feb. 12, 4:26 p.m. An officer responded to a theft report at Philips Gym. While playing racquetball, an individual left her backpack outside the racquetball court. When she returned to the area, the backpack was missing. The backpack is dark blue with light blue trim and contained a wallet, miscellaneous cards, jewelry and clothing.

Feb. 13, 10:40 p.m. Officers responded to a report of an unauthorized party at a college house on East Lorain Street. The party was closed down.

Feb. 14, 12:18 p.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Kade. The alarm was activated by smoke from food spilled on a stove burner. The area was cleared of smoke and the alarms were reset.

Feb. 15, 1:04 a.m. A Barrows resident requested assistance with a student ill from alcohol consumption. Officers responded and the student was transported to Allen Medical Center for treatment.

Feb. 15, 1:20 p.m. Staff at Philips Gym requested assistance with two unruly juveniles who would not leave the gym when asked. An officer responded and spoke with the juveniles. The individuals were escorted from the area after being warned that they would be arrested for trespass if seen on campus again.

Feb. 15, 2:00 p.m. Staff at Philips Gym requested assistance for an ill elderly man. Upon arrival, officers requested an ambulance. The man was transported to Allen Medical Center.

Feb. 16, 12:16 a.m. An officer on patrol of Asia House observed damage to a vending machine in the main lobby. The face of the machine was kicked in, but without providing access to the product. The vendor was contacted and informed of the damage.

Feb. 16, 6 a.m. A staff member at Philips Gym reported that an unknown party had broken into the key box and that several keys were missing. The incident is under investigation.

Feb. 16, 11:06 a.m. A student reported the theft of her bicycle from the bicycle rack on the east side of Harkness. The bicycle is a black/blue Trek Sport women’s mountain bike valued at $250. The bicycle is registered and was locked at the time of its theft.

Feb. 16, 4:40 p.m. A student reported the theft of a bookbag from the third floor of Mudd. The bookbag contained textbooks, jewelry, Ipod headphones and miscellaneous items. The bookbag had been left unattended for a short period of time.

Feb. 16, 8:45 p.m. Officers’ assistance was requested for an injured student at Philips Gym. The student, climbing down the climbing wall, landed on his right foot incorrectly and broke his ankle. The student was transported by ambulance to Allen Medical Center.

Feb. 17, 1:50 p.m. Officers responded to a report of students smoking a bong on the south side of Barrows Hall. The students were approached and the bong, which was used to smoke apple tobacco, was confiscated. It will be held at the Security Office until break.

Feb. 17, 2:50 p.m. Student staff reported vandalism to a painting in Price lounge. An unknown party wrote on the painting with a black marker. The incident is under investigation.

Feb. 18, 3:16 a.m. An officer conducting a security check of Langston Hall located a security light on the floor of the north side lobby. The light was transported to the Security Department and a work order was filed for its repair.
