Bowler sets record

Bowling Monday night in the Oberlin Classic league, senior Tom Hartman set a new Oberlin College student record for a three-game series with a 764 total, comprised of games with scores of 246, 258 and 260. The previous record of 752 was held by Christopher Weaver, OC ‘94. (Justin Heiman, OC ‘04, had established a student mark of 761 for three consecutive games that technically did not count as a series because they were his second, third and fourth games of last spring’s OC Match-Play Tournament.)

On the way to his record-setting performance, Hartman rolled 25 strikes out of 34 chances, including seven consecutive strikes to start the second game. After only his third week as a member of Oberlin’s premier community-wide league, the big night raised Hartman’s average from 175 to 201.

His team, sponsored by Born Brothers Beef, won all four points to raise its second-round record to a league-leading 15-1. His teammates on Monday were senior Ted Olds, juniors Andrew Meister and Todd Ares and Junior Team USA member (and Oberlin native) Erin Landford-Loschetter. The quintet posted a third-game score of 1056 and three-game total of 3045, both season highs for the league.

Hartman is a second-year member of Oberlin’s intercollegiate bowling team. The 764 was his first 600+ series of the season.
