Alcohol help given
To the Editors: Excessive drinking remains a major problem on college campuses nationwide. Students continue to drink too much despite correlations between substance abuse and other social problems, such as fatal car crashes, increased risk of HIV infection and date rape. While most students do not see the harm that a few beers can do, the truth is that the risk of excessive alcohol consumption involves more than just a hangover the next day. Research indicates that alcohol is a factor in 66 percent of student suicides and 60 percent of all sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. There are resources available at Oberlin College to help cope with choices related to alcohol or other drugs. Start by visiting www.oberlin.edu/wellness/aod/. If you are interested in serving on OC’s Alcohol/Other Drug Committee, contact a student senator or email wellness.center@oberlin.edu. –Lori Flood |
