Use of Excessive Force against Oberlin students

At its Plenary Session on Sunday, October 7, Student Senate agreed to draft a letter in support of students involved in an incident with the Oberlin Police on Saturday, September 29. The Senate's letter was sent to President Marvin Krislov last week.

The Student Senate of Oberlin College is greatly alarmed by the arrests of three Oberlin College students on Saturday September 29. Although we recognize that the details of the incident are still under investigation, Senate condemns even the possibility of the use of excessive force, especially if discriminatory.

We are encouraged by the prompt actions of both the College and the City to investigate this incident. We hope that the promised mediation and investigations occur as swiftly, thoroughly, and transparently as possible. We will closely watch the ongoing proceedings and continue to promote the privacy and rights of our fellow students.
