Lindy Workshop Weekend
with
Evin Galang and Andrew Twiss,
featuring a rigorous two-day workshop, evening dances, and the Theo
Crocker Sextet
live in Wilder Hall.
Evin
Galang began
teaching Swing and Lindy Hop in 1998 with her future husband, Noah, at
her side. Together they studied, danced and developed a teaching style
that would become a favorite of students all over. Now partnered with
Jason Balutan and Andrew Twiss, Evin continues to bring a high
enthusiasm, great communication and accesibility to the classroom. Evin
has placed at ALHC, NADC, and took first place at ULHS. She has taught
across the country and around the world, including Switzerland, Germany
and the U.K.

Spring Lindy Workshop Weekend
with Skye Humphries and Naomi Uyama, featuring a two-day workshop,
free evening dances, and a live seven-piece band by
Oberlin Jazz Students in
Hales Gymnasium.
Skye and Naomi
have been teaching, competing, and performing internationally over the
past 7 years. Together they have worked on the jazz dance teams "the 10
peppers" and "the Silver Shadows" along with helping start "the jam
cellar" - one of Washington D.C.'s exciting new dance venues. In their
classes they emphasize versatility, partnering skills and keeping
vitality within movement. Both are members of the dance troupe "Mad Dog"
which has been tearing up competitions around the nation.
Skye Humphries
is a
nationally renowned swing dancer and instructor. He emphasizes fun,
energetic social dancing with strong partner connection, solid
technique, innovative moves, and musicality. Skye is a member of the
award winning Lindy Hop dance troupe Minnie's Moochers. He has taught
and performed Lindy Hop at many major national and international events
and dance camps, including Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden. Skye is a
versatile and creative dancer. He has earned some of the most
prestigious awards at national dance competitions, including winning the
2002 Lindy Hop World Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Naomi Uyama
has performed with
Aretha Franklin and The Brian Setzer Orchestra. She has also performed
at the Kennedy Center
and taught swing workshops in Houston, TX. She has won 1st place in the Lindy Hop division at the National Association of Swing Dance
Championship, 2nd place in the Jack and Jill division and 2nd place in
the Pro-am division at the American Lindy Hop Championship, and 1st place in the
Junior Lindy Hop division at the Virginia State
Open.
