Retailer Websites :: Shoes

The following sites are for buying either specially made "swing dance" or dance shoes. Most shoes cost at least $50, and range up to $120. However, many dancers dance in non-specific shoes, particularly Keds-type, deck shoes, athletic shoes -- anything as long as it fits comfortably and isn't too sticky on the bottom, or heavy. Dr. Martens, heels, or "character" shoes are not recommended.

Further Info :: Floors & Shoes

  • www.tcswing.com/more1.htm - Here is a great site where a dancer from NYC describes different dance surfaces and shoes. He also tells how to "chrome" shoes, which is attaching suede-like leather to your soles so you can slide better on wood floors.

Don't buy anything expensive until you've danced a little while and decided how much stickiness you like, and how much cushioning you need. Don't forget the Dr. Scholls insoles -- they help!
