Oberlin Student Finance & Investment Club

About Us

Objectives

OSFIC seeks to educate all interested Oberlin students about finance and investing by giving members the opportunity to manage the OSFIC Fund, improve presentation and networking skills, and attend lectures by Oberlin students, staff, faculty and alumni.

The OSFIC Fund, donated by Oberlin alumni, seeks long-term growth through investment in a diversified portfolio of equity securities traded on domestic exchanges. The target average holding time for securities is 1-3 years. The Fund’s benchmark is the S&P 500, which it seeks to outperform both on average and in most periods.

History

In the winter of 2004 Oberlin College introduced the Oberlin Business Scholars Program as a winter term project to give Oberlin students some exposure to an area they would not otherwise have a chance to learn about. The program is designed to provide students with a foundation of skills, knowledge, and contacts to successfully compete for jobs and internships in the fields of finance and consulting.

Members that participated in the inaugural program were very excited about investing and wanted to create an investment club to help other students who were interested to learn more about investing. Joe Collura’s (Founding President) enthusiasm about starting an investment club drove him to take action in helping form the club. With his dedication and the help from other interested members of the OBS program, they were able to create the OSFIC.
