exist within the body of Christ
A Brief History
Oberlin Christian Fellowship (OCF) is a chapter of InterVarsity
Christian Fellowship (IVCF), which began in England in 1877. IVCF came
to the United States in 1941 as an evangelical and interdenominational
campus ministry. OCF was founded in 1946, becoming one of the first IVCF
chapters in the United States. The purpose of IVCF/USA is to establish
and support witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow
Jesus as Savior and Lord at colleges and universities. It encourages Christians
to share the love of God and God's word and purpose with His people of
every ethnicity and culture. IVCF is active on 560 college and university
campuses nationwide and involves 34,000 students and faculty in its ministries.
OCF
has grown since its creation in 1946, and is now one of the larger student
organizations on campus. Between 1967 and 1970, the fellowship grew from
5 students to 30. The activities at the time consisted only of weekly
Bible studies, but now, in addition to numerous weekly Bible Studies,
OCF holds weekly Large Group meetings, participates in at least two training
retreats each year, and has regular activity nights for Coffee Houses
and other events, such as Christmas, Easter, and the end of the year.
In recent years, a record number of people have been involved in OCF's
activities and events.
For Prospective Students
Coming to visit Oberlin and wanting to get in on the OCF
fun? We currently have two dorm hosts in OCF that would love to host Christian
prospies. Feel free to get in contact with them and they will help you
work out hosting.

If
you already have a host or aren't staying over night and still want to
meet some people in OCF, please send one of us an email and we'd gladly
meet up with you. Happy college hunting!
For
Interested Non-Christians
If
you are interested in Christianity and want to learn more about it but
aren't ready to make a commitment to a church or organization, OCF offers
Groups Investigating God (GIGs). These are 4-week sessions run by a member
of OCF with a couple of attendees that look at various parts of the New
Testiment to discuss and discover the character of Jesus. If you are interested
in participating in a GIG, please send
us an email and we will set you up with someone.
