Philip Wong is the only person in the 25-year history of the Obertones to bring an accordion to his audition. Despite this initial confusion, he proved to be a staggeringly talented tenor once the instrument was wrested from his steely, deathlike grip. He agreed to continue performing for the Obertones if they would give his accordion back. Since none of the other members have the faintest idea of how to use instruments, this was deemed an acceptable condition. Though he initially planned to make a break for it as soon a he was with 'his precious,' Phil has now seen the light that is a cappella, and has chosen to stay with the 'Tones to better understand their ways and customs, and try to attain the elusive musical state known as 'thefullvoicehighA.' His conversion is not yet fully complete: he continues to play the accordion in secret, on moonless nights, where no one can find him.
