sad-dle (sadl) [[OE sadol]]
A seat for the rider, usually padded or of leather. Often referred to as the seat, although technically incorrect.
han'dle-bar' (handl) n. [[OE hand]] [often plural] A metal bar, most often curved, used for steering.
stem (stem) n. [[OE stemn]] the part that connects the handlebars to the fork, most often sharply angled.
top tube (täp tōōb) n. [[L tubus, pipe]] the section of the bicycle frame that runs between the headtube and seat tube, often parallel or close to parallel with the ground.
seat stay (stā) n. [[OE -stæg]] the two sections of the bicycle frame that run downward from the top of the seat tube to the rear dropouts. On many bicycles, they contain a fixture or component to which you attach rear brakes.
fork (f&244;rk) n. [[L furca]] the unit, seperate from the bicycle frame, consisting of two supports in which the wheel revolves.
de-rail-luer ca-ble (də rāl'ər) n. [[Fr]] a thin steel cable used to actuate the derailluer, shifting the mechanism and chain between sprokets or chainrings.*
tire (tīr) n. [[ME tyre]] a rubber or synthetic covering, typically inflated or surrounding an inflated innertube, placed around the wheel rim to makes flexible contact with the road.‡
rim n. [[OE rima]] [wheel rim] the outer most part of a wheel on which the tire seats, once all steel or wood, is now produced of various materials.*
head tube (hed tōōb) n. [[OE heafod]] the short, frontward section of the bicycle frame, connected to the top and down tubes, to which the fork is inserted.*
seat tube (sēt tōōb) n. [[ON sūti - tubus, PIPE]] the vertically runnning section of the biycyle frame connected to the rear end of the top tube, the bottom bracket, and the front ends of the seat stays, often measured to determine frame size.*
front de-rail-luer (frənt də rāl'ər) n. [[Fr]] the mechanism used to shift the chain between chainrings on the crankset, thus changing the gear ratio experienced by the rider.*
down tube (doun tōōb) n. [[OE adune]] the frame section running downward from the head tube to the bottom bracket.*

bot-tom brack-et (bät'əm brak'it) n. [[OE botm - Fr brague]] the part of the frame around which the pedal cranks revolve, also the bearings and axle assembly that runs through the bottom bracket shell of the frame.**
chainring (chānriŋ) n. [[L catena - OE hring]] a large cog caqrrying the chain, which is attached to the crank.‡
ped-al (ped''l) n. [[L pes, FOOT]] each of a pair of levers operated by the foot and connected to the cranks, used to transmit power from the rider's leg into forward motion.†‡*
