Temporada de patos / Duck Season (2004) 90 min. MEXICO
Direrctor: Fernando Eimbcke
Since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, this film has been one of the great finds of Mexican cinema. Flama and Moko are fourteen year olds and have been best friends since they were very young. They have everything they need to survive yet another boring Sunday: an apartment without parents, videogames, porn magazines, soft drinks and a planned pizza delivery. However, a power outage, a kooky neighbor, a harried pizza deliveryman, the Real Madrid-Manchester soccer game, some mysterious chocolate brownies and an ugly painting of ducks combine to break the harmony of what promised to be a placid Sunday. Instead, what is revealed are issues such as their parents' bitter divorce, loneliness and confusion about sexual identity. Shot in black and white, this comedy is a whimsical tale that soars with its rich imagination and intelligent vision of life from a teenager's perspective. 14 Ariel Awards 2005 ( Mexican Oscars) Guadalajara Film Festival, -FIPRESCI
