About
The archives serves as the "memory bank" of Oberlin College. It holds the most valuable records of the institution as well as those of individuals, families, and organizations affiliated with Oberlin College and the City of Oberlin. These include materials on movements with which Oberlin has been associated, such as antislavery, black education, coeducation, cultural diversity, temperance, and missionaries; personal papers of faculty, alumni, and other Oberlin related individuals; municipal government records; and more than 200,000 photographs of the College and town, and files on Oberlin College student life from 1835 to the present.

The College Archives are available to those who need access to primary sources about the history of the college and the town. Archival staff provide support for the first-year seminar program, assist seniors enrolled in departmental honors, offer direction for general course
work, and cooperate with students in the development of campus publications and preservation of the records created by student organizations. The archives are open Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and again from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The College Archives web site contains over 363 finding guides for institutional, individual, and community records. These reference tools provide biographical sketches or administrative histories, collection and series descriptions, and folder-level inventories. The web site also contains three publications: Guide to the Architectural Records in the Oberlin College Archives (1996); Oberlin History Bibliography (1992); and, Guide to the Women's History Sources in the Oberlin College Archives (1990).

Collectively, the titles provide references to the primary materials of the College Archives, as well as citations to secondary sources covering topics related to the history of Oberlin College and the town of Oberlin.
