General Responsibilities:
Manage and supervise electronic and continuing resources acquisition, cataloging, access and maintenance for the Oberlin College Library system. Manage and supervise U.S. and Ohio government documents receipt and cataloging. Coordinate with library staff as necessary to promote the efficient and effective use of the library's electronic and continuing resources, and government documents collections.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Establish acquisitions policies and procedures for all formats of electronic and continuing resources, including choice of vendors, ordering, check-in, claiming, binding, and alcove and newspaper area maintenance
- Maintain effective communication with resource vendors; negotiate with vendors concerning acquisition of materials, service issues, and service rates
- Negotiate site license agreements for electronic subscriptions
- Maintain OhioLINK consortial Internet subscriptions
- Establish cataloging policies and procedures for all formats of electronic and continuing resources for Main library, three branch libraries and Carnegie storage area
- Solve problems and do original cataloging for electronic and continuing resources, including government documents, in all formats
- Solve problems and perform cataloging for government document monographs in all formats
- Supervise the automated processes of electronic resources, continuing resources and government documents technical services systems including OBIS, our Innovative Resources Millennium catalog, and OCLC
- Analyze the acquisition and cataloging work flows to ensure efficient receipt, cataloging, processing and/or binding of electronic and continuing resources
- Analyze the government documents workflow to ensure efficient receipt, cataloging and processing of documents
- Coordinate procedures involving the Marcive shipping list and full record loading services for U.S. documents records per Marcive Shipping List Service and Marcive Documents Without Shelves
- Assist with collection development activities for U.S. and Ohio government documents
- Supervise all batch MARC record loads into OBIS, our Innovatitive Resources Millennium catalog
- Create load tables for the creation of bibliographic, item, order and circulation records and for overlaying existing records in OBIS, our Innovative Resources Millennium catalog
- Supervise the maintenance of the library's OpenURL link resolvers:
- Serials Solutions' 360 Link
- OhioLINK Olinks
- Supervise the maintenance of Serials Solutions' 360 Core, the library's A-Z listing service
- Assist with the supervision of Serials Solutions' Summon, the library's discovery layer service, including MARC mapping, content type mapping and exporting records from OBIS, the library catalog
- Supervise proxy server maintenance for the library's electronic resources
- Assist with managing the creation of CONTENTdm digital collections
- Maintain departmental web pages and wikis
Related Duties:
- Participate as liaison librarian in the library's collection development program
- Train and evaluate paraprofessional and student assistant staff
- Participate in overall management of the library system as a member of the Director's Advisory Group
- Participate in the organization and coordination of various digitization projects in the library and Archives as a member of the Digital Projects Workgroup
- Work regular schedule of reference desk duties and fill in as needed
- Prepare annual reports and other reports as needed on electronic and continuing resources, and government documents activities
- Perform other duties as required
Supervision Duties:
Supervise a department with 3 FTE paraprofessional staff and numerous
student assistants.

Directly supervised by the Associate Director of Libraries.

Wrote innovative programs in BASIC and dBASE III with library-wide applications including Tom's indexing system (Xavier University Libraries, c1987) and Tom's catalog drawer labeling system (Xavier University Libraries, c1987). Prepared the finding list for and subsequently cataloged the Francis J. Finn, S.J. correspondence and manuscript collections.
