Robert F. Kennedy Book Award, 2005-1994
The RFK Book Award, partially endowed in 1980 by Arthur Schlesinger Jr. with proceeds from his biography, Robert Kennedy and His Times, is presented annually to the book that "most faithfully and forcefully reflects Robert Kennedy's purposes--his concern for the poor and the powerless, his struggle for honest and even-handed justice, his conviction that a decent society must assure all young people a fair chance, and his faith that a free democracy can act to remedy disparities of power and opportunity." The RFK Book Award has been presented to a distinguished group of authors, including Melissa Fay Greene, Vice President Al Gore, Charlayne Hunter Gault, Toni Morrison, and Alec Wilkinson.
