Who we are

The SPACE Committee is dedicated to building a campus environment that facilitates the performing arts at Oberlin through the creation of student-managed spaces and events. The continuous presence of art is vital to the balance of a liberal arts education, and the value of our classroom education is augmented when students have the capabilities to integrate and apply their learning outside of class. In the past 15 years, there has been a 60- 70% increase in the number of fine arts students at Oberlin College. This surge of interest is not being met with adequate venues and access to resources for the creation and display of student work.

We aim to change that.

Over the years, the SPACE Committee has worked with students, faculty, staff and administration to achieve some significant improvements on campus. Our current focus is on fundraising for the South Basement renovation, a necessary step towards the support Oberlin’s artistic community needs.
