About
the Office of the General Counsel and Secretary

The General Counsel and Secretary is the chief legal officer of the College and the liaison to the Board of Trustees and its committees. As the College’s chief legal officer, responsible for managing the College’s legal affairs and overseeing legal services to the College, the General Counsel and Secretary reviews and provides advice on a wide array of legal questions, including the impact of existing and proposed laws and regulations on College operations or policies. The General Counsel and Secretary also works closely with College administrators, faculty members, and students to identify and fulfill needs for proactive education on applicable legal requirements.
As the College’s repository of historical records and the custodian of the seal of the Corporation, the General Counsel and Secretary serves as an informational resource for the Board of Trustees and advises and briefs the President and Board Chair on Board matters and governance policy and practice. In addition, the General Counsel and Secretary oversees the organization of Board meetings, administers elections and appointments of faculty members to faculty committees and Board committees, and maintains the minutes of Board committees and key College committees.
