Intensive
planning for the new center began on campus in March 1996 when
a committee including science faculty members, college administrators,
and a member of the board of trustees began setting priorities.
In September 1997, the Oberlin College Board of Trustees approved
the proposed science center with a budget of $55 million for
construction and associated project costs and $10 million for
an endowment for maintenance and operating costs.
Construction and landscaping of the facility was completed in
September 2002, and the building was dedicated at ceremonies
held October 4, 2002.
