As part of Residential Education and Dining Services' effort to provide unique and individual housing experiences, nine Program Houses are arranged across campus and cover a variety of interests. Four houses focus on the languages of French, German, Russian and Spanish. A variety of personnel live in the houses with the students including Faculty-in-Residence, Teaching Assistants (usually overseas from the hall's designated country) and Resident Assistants who are fluent in the house's language. The four language halls provide wonderful support in the learning and practicing of the house language as well as opportunities to learn about the culture of the home country.
The other five Program Houses have focuses on various cultural backgrounds. Oberlin offers the Afrikan Heritage House, Asia House, Hebrew Heritage House, Third World House and the Women's Collective. The personnel in these houses help students learn and celebrate the house's mission. The five cultural houses also serve as a support system for students who identify with the house's cultural background.
Placement in any of the Program Houses is by specific applications that can be found on the individual house pages. Residential Education and Dining Services encourages anyone with an interest to apply!
Please submit a Program House Application if you're interested.
