Barnard
Barnard houses approximately 40 students and allows for lots of 1-on-1 contact and more personal connections to be formed among all the residents. Large lounges and kitchens help promote student interaction here. This small community has one Resident Assistant (RA) who helps all the students get to know each other, plan programs and be an all-around mentor to those in the hall.
Barnard is the current location for any student choosing Substance-Free Housing. This option provides students the opportunity to live in an environment that supports their choice to limit their exposure to alcohol and other drugs while avoiding the second-hand effects of peer habits. The greater goal of this unique community is to promote and help the development of a healthy lifestyle in order to better support the Oberlin students who make the conscious choice and effort to live substance-free. Barnard is conveniently located across the street from the main dining hall on campus and just steps away from the Science Center. Students wishing to live in Substance-Free Housing need to fill out an application and, upon acceptance, sign a contact stating no alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs will be consumed in or brought into Substance-Free Housing.
