Lord-Saunders / Afrikan Heritage House
The largest program house on south campus is Lord-Saunders, also known as the Afrikan Heritage House. Approximately 70 students live in Lord-Saunders creating a family atmosphere that extends beyond the house and into the larger campus community. This modern building overlooking South Bowl is the center of activity for students who want to heighten their understanding of cultures, traditions and issues among African, African-American and Afrikan-Caribbean societies. Lord-Saunders is a designated safe space for residents and students of the African Diaspora.
Lord-Saunders houses the aptly named Lord-Saunders Dining Hall & Afrikan Heritage House where house residents have a reserved table at each dinner. The house has one Faculty-in-Residence and works closely with the African American Studies Department to coordinate events, typically including Soul Sessions, art shows, poetry nights and the Kuumba Festival. Those wanting to live in Lord-Saunders should fill out an application.
