The Department of Purchasing efficiently procures the materials
and services needed by College departments to support their programs
and activities. In procuring highly technical or specialized equipment
and supplies, the department relies heavily on the judgment and
expertise of the ordering department. However, orders must be placed
through the purchasing department to qualify for payment from College
resources. The department makes general purchases on the basis of
price, quality, reliability of the vendor, and delivery time.
Vendor Corporate Social Responsibility Statements
In March of 2004 the Board of Trustees adopted an Environmental Policy Statement in an effort to support this policy the Purchasing Department is looking for vendors that support an environmental and socially responsible position. The 17th of June 1999 saw the announcement of an Anti-Sweatshop Purchasing Policy. Since then the college has established a Sweatshop Committe. The Purchasing Department in conjunction with the Sweatshop Committe set in motion steps to establish an approved vendors list. Some of the vendors policies are listed below (more will folow):
