As the Department's clinical psychologist with more applied interests (Al Porterfield is the other clinical psychologist), I teach courses in the clinical area including Personaltiy: Theory and Research, Psychotherapy: Theory, Practice, and Research, Health Psychology, and I participate in the Department's team-taught introductory course (The Study of Behavior). I also supervise the Department's Practicum in Community Psychology.

My research interests are in the area of weight and body image. In the past, I studied body image distortions and disordered eating among normal weight individuals. More recently, my interests have evolved to include body image distortions and weight control among the obese. I am currently involved in a long-term, minimal intervention treatment program for obese individuals with associated health problems (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes type II) which allows me to combine my clinical and research interests as well as my interest in health psychology.

I am a single parent of three very active teenagers: Melissa, 17; Andrew, 16; and Daniel, 14. In what little free time I have, I stay physically active doing aerobics, taking ballet, and working out on whatever piece of gym equipment catches my fancy.
