I have been teaching courses in human relations and research methods at Oberlin since 1972, when I was hired to teachCommunication Studies. Since transferring to Psychology, I have become increasingly interested in social cognitive aspects of interpersonal relations as well as gender issues. My standard courses include Research Methods I, Psychology of Close Relationships, and Psychology of Gender. Along with my colleagues, I teach a piece of our introductory course (The Study of Behavior) each year as well.

Much of my research includes students who have completed the research methods course. We are currently examining information processing correlates of adult attachment style. My colleague, Patty deWinstanley, and I have been studying individual differences in memory for conversation. My previous research includes studies of gender perception, relationships between late adolescents and their parents, and interpersonal conflict.
