Project a narrow beam of light
through
diffraction grating onto screen to show the spectrum.
Variations: to show that the spectrum doesn't end at red
and
violet, just the part we can see, place something fluorescent
(one of
the fluorescent minerals works nicely) beyond the violet end,
and use a
radio shack IR detector (for testing remote controls) beyond
the red
end of the spectrum.
NOTES
The project star diffraction
grating
produces a better spectrum than the prism - only use the prism
if you
plan to demonstrate dispersion.
