FRICTION BLOCK AND SPRING SCALE

APPARATUS
friction block 101-05-B4
250-g spring scale 101-05-G4
500-g mass 101-05-C
video camera 202-09-D
wooden board
next to 202-12

DESCRIPTION
Pull slowly on the spring scale to show how the force of static friction increases to some maximum value until the block begins to move.  Then a lesser force, offsetting the force of kinetic friction, is needed to pull the block along the board at a constant velocity.

NOTES

Aim video camera from above so that reading on spring scale is visible.
