The 77-K cryostat is used to control the temperature of a 475 k-Ohm resistor in the range 80-300K. The resistor is mounted on a copper stage which also contains a diode temperature sensor and an electric heater. The copper stage has a week thermal link to the liquid nitrogen reservoir. This equipment is used with an Advanced Lab experiment to measure the Johnson noise (thermal noise) of the resistor.
