Zach Mathes

| Zachary Ryan Mathes is from Charleston, West Virginia. He began studying percussion at the age of 12 under the instruction of Ken Tackett, who remained his private teacher and mentor throughout middle school and high school. He spent the last two years of high school studying with both Ken and Roger Braun, professor of percussion at Ohio University. In the summers of his sophomore and junior years of high school, Zach attended the Juilliard Summer Percussion Seminar, directed by the University of Michigan's Joseph Gramley, where he took private lessons with Joseph Pereira, Joseph Gramley, and Jeffrey Irving. He also attended Indiana University's Summer Percussion Workshop during the summer of his junior year. In 2009, he auditioned at and was admitted to Oberlin Conservatory. Zach is currently a student of Michael Rosen. |
