Isaac Fernández Hernández was born in Heredia, Costa Rica in 1989. When he was 12 years old he began his percussion studies at the Costa Rican National Institute of Music with Alejandro Molina. He performed with several different ensembles that ranged from the Young Persons National Orchestra to the Costa Rican National Symphony Band. When he was 16 years old he got accepted to the Interlochen Arts Academy where he got to perform with the IAA orchestra, symphony band and percussion ensemble and had the opportunity to study for two years with John Alfieri. In 2007 Isaac got third place in the First International Percussion Festival in Costa Rica. In his second year at Interlochen, Isaac got first chair orchestra and won the Fine Arts Award for Percussion. In 2008, he got accepted to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he is studying with Michael Rosen and has performed with numerous ensembles such as the Oberlin Conservatory orchestra, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble, contemporary music orchestra, Oberlin percussion group as well as with the professional tango group Tami Tango. |
