A Midsummer Night's Dream

Magic abounds in the Oberlin Summer Theater Festival's first production of the 2012 Season, A Midsummer Night's Dream.  William Shakespeare's most popular comedy opens on July 6th at Hall Auditorium.

When a dispute erupts between the King and Queen of the Fairies, it catches two pairs of distraught lovers and a troupe of amateur actors in its comedic clutches.  Fairy mischief by the infamous rascal Puck causes misplaced love, great confusion, and a plethora of amusing circumstances!  Slapstick, wordplay, and amorous chaos will have audiences chuckling.

Midsummer comes to audiences this summer in a concise adaption designed to be easily understood.  Director Paul Moser comments, "we've cut down the play to its essential story without doing any damage to the poetic fabric. Audiences members from age 6 to 96 will be able to understand and enjoy this festive and celebratory production."

Leading the cast of Midsummer are veteran OSTF company members David Bugher (Bottom) and Courtney Merrell (Hippolyta/Titania). They are joined by Derrick Bean (Theseus/Oberon) and Ali Bianchi (Puck).  "The works of Shakespeare and other great playwrights are essential to our Theater tradition and need to be shared with every generation," affirms Moser.  OSTF hosts an Acting Shakespeare Intensive for qualified high school students to further this goal to expose young people to Shakespeare.

All performances take place in air-conditioned Hall Auditorium.
