Oberlin College is blessed with multiple sacred spaces. These include spaces specifically used for Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religious practices, and many other pleasant places for prayer and contemplation, including Tappan Square and the Arboretum.
The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL) coordinates the care and use of Fairchild Chapel (located in Bosworth Hall, at 50 Lorain St.), which is a multifaith house of worship used most often by Christian communities. Fairchild Chapel is open weekdays from 8 am to 4:30 pm for prayer and meditation and may also be scheduled for worship services, lifecycle rituals, and sacred music concerts through ORSL. ORSL staff are available to officiate at lifecycle rituals.
Other campus sacred spaces include: Finney Chapel, the Kosher-Halal Co-Op in Talcott Hall, and Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu-related practice spaces located in Wilder Hall. The Oberlin and wider Cleveland areas also offer many more sacred spaces for spiritual practice and inspiration. Please contact ORSL for more information.
