Jewish Shabbat

Every Friday, Shabbat Service takes place at 5:30 pm and Shabbat Meal takes place at 7:00 pm in the Kosher-Halal Co-op (Talcott Dining Hall). Everyone is welcome. Please sign-up in the Wilder Main Lobby Alcove by noon on Fridays.

Catholic Mass

Liturgy is celebrated on most Sundays during the academic year on campus in Fairchild Chapel (in Bosworth Hall) at 5 pm. Several local priests share the presiding responsibilities. Oberlin students who are active members of the Newman Catholic Community serve in other ministries including music, lector, and Eucharistic ministries. After Mass, we share a meal together. This meal is a continuation of the community’s Sunday celebration together. All are welcome

Protestant Services

At Oberlin, there is the same great diversity among Protestants that there is in the world at large. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL) supports a number of Protestant spiritual communities on campus, provides ecumenical opportunities for Christian groups to come together, and connects Protestant individuals with the many churches in the local community.

  • Ecumenical Christians of Oberlin (ECO), a mainline/progressive Protestant student organization, gathers for dinner, discussion, and prayer on Sunday evenings at 5:30 pm. The group invites a variety of speakers to lead the weekly discussions on timely topics.
  • Oberlin Christian Fellowship (OCF), a Protestant student organization affiliated with InterVarsity, offers weekly small group Bible studies and holds large group worship meetings two Friday evenings per month at 7:00 pm.
  • AGAPE, an African-American Protestant student organization, offers Bible studies and other activities.
  • Credo, a nondenominational Christian organization that celebrates musical excellence as a gift of the Spirit, conducts a weekly Sing (with hymns, scripture, a reflection, and prayer) open to all in Fairchild Chapel.

Muslim Prayer

The Muslim Prayer Room, located in Wilder Hall 221, is available for Muslims who wish to perform prayers throughout the day during Wilder Hall’s operational hours. The Muslim Student Association holds a special Jum’ah prayer service there every Friday at 12:45 pm.

Other Campus Religious Services

Other campus spiritual communities, including Buddhists, Friends, Orthodox Christians, Pagans, and UUs meet on campus for religious services at various times. Please contact ORSL for information about particular campus spiritual community religious service times.
