Public Observing Sessions

Times and Dates:

We have finished installing new telescope piers on the Peters observing deck. We plan to offer public viewing sessions on the first and third Friday nights of each month. Sessions will only be held if skies are reasonably clear. We do check radar and try to anticipate clear weather as much as possible, so you might want to do the same. You can check the forecast for observing weather here . We will try to post last minute information concerning public viewing sessions on this page, so you can bookmark this page and check it before coming up. Opening also depends on availability of student helpers.

Directions:

We are located atop Peters Hall, which is in the center of the block on Professor Street, facing east onto Tappan Square. Enter Peters through the elevator lobby on the southwest corner of the building and take either the stairs or the elevator to the fourth floor. Look for the entrance to the observatory in the hallway just off the lobby. Our door has a round window and a ceiling sign above it that says "In Use". There should be someone at the door to greet you. We have an occupancy limit of 45 past this door, so on crowded nights, you may have to wait in the 4th floor lobby until space is available.

Current Public Observing Schedule:

Starting times vary with day length and standard / daylight saving time, and are subject to change.

NEW DATE
