Dr. Wurtz is Chief of the Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research at the National Eye Institute. He has done pioneering work in neurophysiology making extraordinary contributions to our understanding of how the brain works at the level of single cells. He is particularly interested in how the brain perceives motion and controls eye movements. Wurtz is a recipient of the Golden Brain Award from the Berkeley-based Minerva Foundation, past- president of the Society for Neuroscience, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
