Ninde Scholars Program

Our History

classroom

The Ninde Scholars Program shares the educational resources of Oberlin College with the town of Oberlin.

We offer opportunities to Oberlin City School students seeking to improve their educational opportunities. All our services are offered free of charge. Our tutors are advanced undergraduates who have completed coursework on teaching and tutoring at Oberlin College or have considerable experience working with young people in educational contexts.

Since our founding in 2003, we have offered our services at several community sites, and have run a summer writing course for high school students and a summer enrichment program for middle school students. In Fall 2005 we launched the Ninde Scholars Program at Oberlin High School and in Spring of 2010 we launched the Aspiring Scholars Program at Langston Middle School.

The Ninde Challenge Collaborative

In 2002, Dick and Ann Ninde, residents of Kendal at Oberlin, decided they wanted to help make it possible for all Oberlin students to attend college. They contributed $450,000 towards this cause, and challenged the community to match their gift. Donations poured in from all over Lorain County, and particularly from Oberlin townspeople.

The inspiring vision of Dick and Ann Ninde and the financial generosity of all the Ninde Fund contributors make college a reality for more of Oberlin's young people.
