May 25, 2005Oberlin College President Nancy S. Dye has announced the appointment of Linda Gates as Oberlin’s new dean of students.
“I am delighted to appoint Linda Gates as our dean,” said President Dye. “Over this academic year, she has done a superb job as acting dean of students and worked exceptionally well with students and with the entire campus. I deeply appreciate Linda’s enthusiasm for doing the demanding job of dean of students, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with her.”
Gates first came to Oberlin in 1989 as lecturer in English as a second language. In September 1997 she was named associate dean of student academic services and director of the student support services program.
The class dean for the Class of 2004, Gates is a highly respected member of the College’s administrative and professional staff (A&PS) and has served on the A&PS Council, the A&PS Grievance Committee, and the College Benefits Committee and Community Board.
Gates earned the B.A. degree at Wilson College and the M.A. degree in teaching from Oberlin. She served as a visiting professor of French at Kenyon College and at Cleveland State University and has completed graduate work toward a doctorate in higher education administration at Kent State University. |
