JUAN LUIS BUÑUEL '57 TO PRESENT "BUÑUEL ON THE BUÑUELS" APRIL 8-10 AT OBERLIN |

April 6, 2004 The alumnus will return campus to present the program—a series of talks, film screenings and a colloquium—focused on his work and that of his father Luis Buñuel (1900-1983), the world renowned Spanish film director considered by many to be the inventor of surrealism film. The events, which are free and open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. Friday with a talk and conclude with a reception at 5 p.m. Saturday. With his father he worked on The Young One (1960), Viridiana (1961), Diary of a Chambermaid (1964), and That Obscure Object of Desire (1977). Juan Luis's own work include the documentary Calanda (1966) about his father's home town in Aragon, Spain; the award‑winning feature films The Woman with Red Boots (1974, with Catherine Deneuve and Fernando Rey), Leonore (with Liv Ullmann and Michel Piccoli) and At the Meeting with Joyous Death (with Gerard Depardieu); and more than a dozen films and series made for French and Spanish television. In addition, Juan Luis Buñuel has shot documentaries in Mexico, the U.S., France, Spain, Cambodia, and South America, including Black Power and Chile: The Years of Change. His sculptures have been exhibited in Mexico, New York, San Francisco, Barcelona, Paris, and Madrid.
