OBERLIN COLLEGE PRESENTS TRES VIDAS OCTOBER 3 |

|
SEPTEMBER. 5, 2003Oberlin College will continue its observance of Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month with Tres Vidas, a multi-art celebration of three legendary Latin American women Friday, October 3, at 8 p.m. The event, which is being sponsored by La Casa Hispánica, The Sue Carroll Smith Fund, and Department of Hispanic Studies, will take place in Warner Center, 30 N. Professor Street. Tickets are $3 at the door. A blend of poetry, painting, narrative, and popular and folkloric music from nine Latin composers, Tres Vidas tells the stories (in English) of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, Argentinas first feminist poet Alfonsina Storni, and Salvadoran peasant-activist Rufina Amaya, the sole survivor of the 1981 massacre that wiped out her village of 1,000 people, including her husband and four children. All three are portrayed by Cuban-born singing actress Georgina Corbo, whose performance will be underscored with music by the Florida-based trio CORE Ensemble, (cello, piano, percussion), which commissioned the work. Tres Vidas was written by Chilean scholar and author Marjorie Agosin, a professor of Spanish at Wellesley College and a leading voice of Latin American feminism. The work has been presented to wide acclaim in a variety of venues throughout the United States. Corbos credits include stage work off-Broadway and at the Kennedy Center, television roles in such shows as Law and Order, New York Undercover, and Sesame Street, and commercials and voice-overs. |
