Stories from the Week of September 24, 2001

Monday: "Oberlin Reacts" Web Site
Information about how Oberlin has been affected by the events of September 11 and their aftermath is available online. The web site includes lists of Oberlin College resources, outside resources, President Dye's letters to the Oberlin community and a collection of personal views by Oberlin students, faculty members and alums.

Monday: Oberlin Dedicates New C.B. Fisk Organ With Live Concert Broadcasts
On Friday, September 28, Finney Chapel will resonate with the sounds of Oberlin College's new, 4,014 pipe organ, played in concert for the first time. The live Oberlin broadcasts on radio station WCLV can also be enjoyed from the station's website. The dedication of The Kay Africa Memorial organ, built by C. B. Fisk, Inc., of Gloucester, Mass., is the centerpiece of a weekend of concerts and events.

Monday: Audra Skuodas Lectures Tuesday, September 25
Audra Skuodas will give an Ellen Johnson Visiting Guest Artist Presentation at the Allen Memorial Art Museum Tuesday, September 25, at 4:45 P.M. Skuodas also has an exhibition of her current works on display at Fisher Hall through Friday, September 28. Both the the presentation and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Tuesday: Oberlin's Peace Rally and March Receives International Attention
Last Saturday Oberlin College students held a peace rally and march against racism and war. The rally, organized by a coalition of student groups, was covered in an in-depth article in Monday's London Guardian.

Wednesday: Oberlin College Science Library Open to Students
Although construction still continues on other parts of the science center, Oberlin College's new science library opened to students on August 30. Twice the size of the now "retired" Kettering library, it houses two group study rooms, an electronic classroom and a spacious reading area with an abundance of natural light.

Thursday: Conservatory Student Performs for NATO Ambassadors
Caroline Slack '04 , a violin performance major, has been invited to perform at upcoming events in Belgium hosted by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander of Europe, General Joseph Ralston.

Thursday: Fussers Is Online
The student entries in Fussers, the College directory, are now online. The Fussers online version gives basic contact information for Oberlin College students, including e-mail addresses and campus mailroom box numbers. The directory will be updated monthly to keep information current. The College employees' directory debuted online last spring.

Thursday: Memorial Service for Norman Care to Take Place September 28
A memorial service for Norman Care, professor of philosophy, will take place tomorrow at 4:00 P.M. in Oberlin's First Church.

Friday: Oberlin College Library Book Sale Begins Today
Oberlin College's annual book sale begins today at noon outside of Mudd A-level, and will continue until 7:00 P.M. The sale also will be held tomorrow, September 29, from 9:00 A.M. to noon. In the event of rain, the book sale will be held in Mudd's A-level study lounge.

Friday: Flu Shots Available Beginning October 2
Free flu shots will be available for students, faculty and staff members (and their families) beginning Tuesday, October 2 at Oberlin College's Student Health Services. For more information on the times and dates, see the College's online calendar of events.
