Term Begins
For the month of
January, Oberlin College is on Winter Term. During this month, students
can pursue academic interests outside of regular course offerings through
individual or group projects on or off campus.

A
closer look at various Winter Term projects, including internships at
the American Folk Art Museum in New York, the Nature Conservancy in
the Florida Keys, the Cleveland Museum of Art and EcoCity Cleveland;
travel journals from China, Germany and the Virgin Islands; and on-campus
theater, dance and opera productions.
Thursday: Shansi
Announces Fellowship Recipients for 2002-04
The
Oberlin Shansi Memorial Association recently awarded post-graduate
fellowships to eight Oberlin seniors and alumni. The recipients
of the fellowships will spend two years living and working in China,
Japan, Indonesia and India as part of Shansi's effort to promote international
understanding through programs of educational exchange.

Examining September 11 Begin January 7
President Nancy S.
Dye will deliver a lecture, "Civil Liberties and Academic Freedom:
The War on Terrorism's Implications for Students and Faculties in American
Colleges and Universities," Monday, January 7 at noon. Dye's lecture
is part of a series of discussions planned for the month of January
to examine the events of September 11 through various perspectives on
contemporary events Other speakers in the series will include Oberlin
College faculty members and alumni. Immediately following Dye's presentation,
Professor of Politics Ron Kahn will lecture. His presentation will explore
civil liberties, anti-terrorism and the rights of subordinated groups.
All lectures are free and open to the public, and will take place in
Craig auditorium, located in the College's new science center.
