Student Puts Classroom Theory to the Test
Senior
Aaron Manheim admits that he was hoping to fulfill a requirement toward
graduation when he signed up for Environmental Studies 320: Gender,
Nature, and Culture. What he didn't expect were the benefits the service-oriented
class would provide him with, both in and out of the classroom.
Monday: Winter
Shutdown Information
During
the winter shutdown period (December 24 through January 1), the Center
for Information Technology and the computer store will be closed. All
campus computer labs will be closed, and peripherals will be powered
off. Before departing for the break, all college personnel are asked
to shutdown their computers and turn off the power. Complete information
about services that will be available during winter shutdown and procedures
for shutting down computers is now available on the Center
for Information Technology's web site.

Portrait
of Pianist Hye Eun Suh
Pianist
Hye Eun Suh is the subject of the new Conservatory Portrait.
A student of Haewon Song, Suh was one of five winners in this fall's
Conservatory Concerto Competition. Prior to attending Oberlin, Suh studied
at the Seoul Art High School in Korea. She received prizes at the Se-Kye
and Chunchoo Piano Competition, and won the gold medal at the Korean
Times Music Competition.

Hall Bursting with Student Art Work
Better Stuff Bursting at the Seams...Who
Likes Cheese Anyway? is on display now through the end of the semester
in Fisher Hall. The exhibit is a collective show for students in the
Art Department's year-long "Senior Studio and Thesis" class.
Thursday: College
Named as Key Supporter in Ohio's Main Street Program
The town
of Oberlin has received an award signifying its acceptance in the innovative
Ohio Main Street Program administered by Downtown Ohio, Inc. (DOI).
"We are proud that the College was named in the application as one of
three key supporters of the Main Street Program, along with the city
and O.H.I.O," says Daniel Gardner, director of the College's Community
Affairs Office.

of Ashé
Continues at Cleveland's Here Here Gallery
The exhibition Translations of Ashé: Transforming Space:
Art as a Ritual, an art installation by eight Oberlin College students
now on view at Cleveland's Here Here Gallery, is closed for the holiday
break. The show will reopen January 4 and continue through January 25.
The gallery, located at 1305 Euclid Avenue, will be open Fridays from
5:00 P.M. to 9 P.M., and
Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5:00 P.M. Admission
to the exhibition is free.
Friday: Fall
Semester Ends with a Flurry of Exams
Fall semester
ends Saturday, December 22, with one last day of final exams. On Monday,
December 24, Oberlin College will begin Winter Shutdown. Most College
offices and facilities will be closed for the week. Winter Term, a time
when students are free to pursue academic interests outside Oberlin's
regular course offerings through individual or group projects, will
begin January 2.
